Elena Shackleton brought “A Unique Reality” with nearly 40 works to the Rotunda Gallery, City Hall, Bethlehem.
Shackleton’s oil and watercolor paintings featured still life, the human figure, and plein-air landscape subjects.
“Struggle and Rebirth” (2020; oil on gesso board, 11 in. x 14 in.) is an example of Shackleton’s plein-air paintings.
“It was a fallen tree that actually was sprouting greenery in the springtime,” says Shackleton. The tree bridging a rippling stream dominates the lush wooded landscape.
With skillful rendering of light and form, each work conveys the artist’s interpretation of the world around her.
Shackelton, president, The Lehigh Art Alliance, studied at the Philadelphia Museum School, Cape School of Art, and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She has worked in illustration and graphic design and is devoted to painting and teaching.
The exhibition, which concluded March 29, was sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission.
