Ordinance passed to address bridge issue

Northampton County Council met April 7 to hold a public hearing for Ordinance 814 regarding the replacement, repair or maintenance of a bridge.

Property owner Liviu Victor Rusu has objected to the replacement of the bridge on his property and wants it removed. Council determined it is necessary and appropriate to acquire a temporary construction easement for a project involving the replacement of the bridge.

Through the ordinance, Northampton County will temporarily be able to cross or otherwise use 412 square feet of Rusu’s property, in accordance with project completion. The ordinance was adopted unanimously.

Also at the meeting, council honored various high school students for their outstanding athletic achievement.

Among them were Easton Area High School freshman Aubre Krazer and Liberty High School senior Patrick Gilhool. Krazer was honored for her pioneering efforts as a female wrestler, while Gilhool was honored for his excellent performance and record as part of the LHS swim team.

Following complaints from former staff, residents and other members of the public regarding Gracedale Nursing home at multiple county council meetings, council will conduct an overall study on the performance of Gracedale. The study will include, but is not limited to, an analysis of revenue and expenditure, a determination of employee morale and, most importantly, a way for council to address any shortcomings.

Northampton County Council will meet next 6:30 p.m. May 5 in the county council building, 669 Washington St., Easton., with a YouTube livestream available.
