Mayor’s Message: Northampton to get new welcome area on D&L Trail
“Welcome to Northampton” - In the near future, you’ll see that greeting hanging in front of our new welcome center on the north end of Canal Street. With the proliferation of bike traffic and hikers enjoying our riverfront D&L Trail, the borough will be constructing a rest area for our guests to enjoy as they pass through town.
The center, funded by a generous grant, will feature restrooms, comfortable benches, a map of local convenience stores and restaurants and other sites to visit.
There will also be a display of information on the history of Northampton, highlighting the role of the cement industry as our foundation.
With 165 miles of trail on the D&L, along with our connection to the Nor-Bath Trail, I’m sure the center will be a welcome oasis for many a weary traveler.
Attention, pet lovers and friends: Mark your calendars for the Paw Prints on the Canal extravaganza 11 a.m.-4 p.m. June 12, rain or shine. This popular and very-well-attended event features more than 160 vendors for your every pet need, with all proceeds donated to the Northampton Police K-9 Unit.
Additionally, you’ll enjoy dog training demos, the sharp-dressed pet contest, rescue pets for adoption and a wide variety of refreshments.
Paw Prints takes place in our Canal Street Park, with plenty of parking available. Vendors have time to register until May 29 at pawprintsonthecanal@yahoo.com. Should you wish to volunteer to assist, call 610-554-3678. Your service will be greatly appreciated.
This is just a great event to patronize as you walk along the river, enjoying the day outdoors. I look forward to seeing you there!
From the code enforcement officers: Remember to keep your grass mowed and weeds in check as the weather gets warmer. I prefer no one receives citations for violations.
On the flip side, I’ve certainly enjoyed traveling around the borough, appreciating all of the gorgeous flowers and gardens coming to life around your homes this spring. It really brings the town to life. To all of the homeowners and gardeners across the borough, thank you for your efforts and the beauty it brings to our community. Well done!
For now, thanks for tuning in. Enjoy your day, and be well.
