To the Editor:
When the state officials decided to take the cow path roads in Seemsville and Kreidersville and turn them into state roads, I’m sure they never imagined we would have hundreds of tractor-trailers and dump trucks traveling and tearing up these skimpy roads and with no consideration to the families that live along them.
Right now, there are approximately 100 dump trucks hauling coke/coal ash to the Northampton Generating plant on Route 329. These dump trucks, with their torn tarps, are spewing this ash all along the routes they travel. This ash is considerably dangerous to everyone that inhales it. The side effects, including lung cancer, are tremendous.
The amount of noise caused by drivers using their jack brakes is deafening. As the residents who live along Seemsville Road, Allen Drive and Kreidersville Road will soon be out working and relaxing in their yards, this air pollution problem (as stated by the Environmental Protection Agency) will be getting much worse. If the Northampton Generating Plant continues the need to haul this dangerous air-polluting ash, it needs to be hauled in self-contained trucks.
The EPA enacted the Clean Air Act under President Nixon, and we need to put that in place right now.
Residents, it is time to speak out. Call your township managers, your state senators and representatives and your federal senators and representatives. We need to stand together for action on this problem. We elect these people and expect them to protect us against harmful pollutants such as this ash.
