17TH ANNUAL STUDENT POETRY PROJECT MIDDLE SCHOOL HONORABLE MENTION Dysphoria

I once saw this boy-

hourglass figure

frail shoulders

broad hips

gentle glassy eyes

Nurturing looks.

For all one knows

he could be shattered into Thousands Of Pieces,

the look of Disgust on his face was insufferable.

All he wanted was to be Normal-

Ordinary.

Who was he?

All he had ever been was a boy,

trapped inside a confinement of

Dysphoria.

Not for a moment would I desire

to have to look at that boy

once more.

Therefore, I covered my mirror

in hopes to one day

look like the boy that’s been shut away

in the penitentiary,

that is his own Mind.
