Allentown West Rotary Club to host variety of speakers in May

The Allentown West Rotary Club is a community of friends and professionals working together to address the needs of our local and global communities.
During this month, AWRC is celebrating nearly 60 years of service.
The club meets 7:30 a.m. every Wednesday either at Madeline’s Restaurant, upstairs, 1250 Turnstone Drive, Fogelsville or via Zoom.
AWRC also has a program of interesting speakers covering a wide variety of topics.
Guests are always welcome to attend.
The schedule of speakers for May are:
· May 4: In person at Madeline’s Restaurant/Zoom – Speaker: Dr. Barbara Kistler will announce the winners of the AWRC Scholarship program. Seven students from Parkland High School, Northwestern Lehigh, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute or Lehigh Carbon Community College will be honored and given scholarship awards. Parents, school representatives, Rotarians and guests will be present to recognize the achievement of each student particularly in the areas of service and leadership. Kistler, chair of the selection committee, will announce the winners, their achievements and future plans.
· May 11: In person at Madeline’s Restaurant/Zoom – Speaker: Jim White, commander – U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939. They have 21,000 members and serve in 50 states. In this presentation, attendees will learn about the history of the United States Auxiliary, what it does and how it helps the community.
· May 18: Zoom – Speaker: Karen Beard, executive director of The Neighborhood Center. The mission of the center is to transform the lives of the children and their families in the Seventh Street community through education, leadership and positive choices. The Neighborhood Center serves over 100 youth ages 4-18 providing them with Pre-K classes, after school programs and summer programming. These programs are funded by grants and corporate/individual giving. In addition to the staff of seven employees there are a host of committed volunteers.
· May 25: In person at Madeline’s Restaurant/Zoom – Club Assembly. The AWRC Board and committee chairs will share the club’s projects and plans as they gear up for a new Rotary calendar year. This is a great opportunity to learn about all the community projects the club is involved in. Come and learn about what the club does and see where you can fit.
