Hanover council names Rossi to fill open seat

Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council voted April 20 to appoint Anthony Rossi to fill an open council seat left by Rick Tocci, who resigned recently.

Rossi currently holds a seat on the personnel board, which council said may have to change now that he has been elected to council.

Council Chairman Bruce Paulus mentioned he asked Rossi to join the board at the same time he asked Jeanne Rossi to fill a role on the township planning commission, which was voted on and approved by council during the meeting April 20.

Council also appointed Robin Yoder to serve on the township planning commission due to the vacated seat created by the resignation of Douglas Baillie. Paulus said Yoder was honored to fill the role.

In other news, council was presented with opening bids for the Allendale sanitary sewer replacement project. The township received three competitive bids but took the offer from Wexacon Inc., at a price of $598,252 for the township and $56,611 for the lateral and track replacement that will be done through Allendale’s own means.

Before viewing the bids, the township engineer expected to see numbers in the $800,000 ballpark, so council was very grateful its offer was much lower than the anticipated projection. The contract with Wexacon will be thoroughly reviewed by the engineer and township manager before moving forward.

During the review of reports, township Manager Melissa Wehr mentioned the River Central Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan is on track and entering phase four of six, with plans of completion set for this year.

The plan involves multiple municipalities throughout the Lehigh Valley that work together to determine common goals for that area of land. Wehr and the township clerk both serve a role as committee members and attend regular meetings.

Wehr also mentioned the recreation committee is looking to host a community night, currently planned for Aug. 23. More information on that event is to follow soon.

Council next meets 7:30 p.m. May 4 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. To view the agenda ahead of time, visit hanleco.org.
