T&F teams remain perfect

The Emmaus girls and boys track and field programs have swept every team on their schedules through six meets.

Last Tuesday, coach Kami Reinhard’s girls squad defeated Liberty 108-42, while the boys downed the Hurricanes 100-50 to each improve to 6-0 on the season.

Excellence has become a trademark of Reinhard’s tenure, but this wouldn’t be possible without the program’s talented athletes and skillful coaches. In fact, Reinhard says without her assistants none of it would work.

“We have 14 assistant coaches,” Reinhard said. “I am so thankful for the time and effort they put into our athletes. Each of them care deeply about the success of their event groups.”

Those coaches have helped mold one of the EPC’s best - if not the best - teams. In the Liberty meet, the girls dominated in the sprints. Abigail Burnett, Elizabeth Burns and Lauren Kushma respectively won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Hailey Reinhard continued her winning ways by claiming the 800- and 1,600-meter runs, and Isabella Lees took the 3,200-meter contest.

Isabelle Russo was a factor, winning the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. The Hornets won also the 4-by-100 and 4-by-800 relay races.

Fielders Sheldyne Pierre won the high jump, while Summer Lorincz claimed the triple jump and Molly Lineberger won the discus.

The Emmaus boys displayed speed and strength in downing Liberty. Samuel Moratori and Blaise Verrastro won the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes. Distancer Holden Brown took first in the 800 meters, Conor Fisher claimed the 1,600 meters and Ethan Strzempek. The Hornets also won all three relay races.

The Hornets’ Lucian Freeman won the high jump, Aiden Hurlburt claimed the pole vault and Kyle Moore won two contests - the long and triple jumps.

Reinhard has displayed a penchant for getting the most out of her athletes. It may sound easy, but it’s not.

“I have a philosophy that one path is not the best for all,” Reinhard said. “Some of our athletes do better working on quality over quantity. Some thrive on more of a quantity type of program. I do have a gift of getting to know our athletes - and all of their names - pretty quickly. I do my best to figure out what each of her or his strengths are to help our team.

Sometimes, she has to move the pieces to different spots.

“It’s like a puzzle,” she said. “I love figuring it out.”
