Hornet boys tennis prepares for postseason

The Emmaus boys tennis program is gearing up for the 2022 postseason as a successful regular season nears its conclusion.

Head coach Fred Saab’s Hornets improved to 12-3 with a 6-0 win over Pleasant Valley last Thursday. Emmaus has a final regular season battle scheduled at Parkland on April 19.

One reason for Emmaus’ record has been the play of the club’s singles contingent. No. 1 Eddy Chow, No. 2 Nick Stone and No. 3 Nic Gilboy have been outstanding.

“Eddy is a very talented tennis player,” Saab said. “As the number one singles player he sets the tone on and off the court for the other players to follow.”

Stone, who has lost just one game this season at No. 2, “loves the game of tennis,” according to his coach. This emerging freshman “has a powerful game with a strong serve.”

“Nick is an up-and-coming player to watch,” Saab said. “...I look forward to watching and coaching his high school tennis career.”

The doubles teams have proved a menace to opponents more often than not. No. 2 doubles Rohan Desai and Ben Fletcher have progressed this season. Desai is a veteran player who uses his experience to help his game as well as his teammates, while Fletcher has “worked hard to earn a spot in the starting lineup,” his coach said.

This year Gabe Huff and Ryan Baig have played No. 2 and No. 3 doubles at various points. Huff has a strong serve, forehand and volley, while Baig is hard working and eager to improve. No. 4 doubles Zach Moser and Quinn Durkin have played respectable tennis throughout the campaign. Moser, a junior, is very tall and athletic while Durkin, a freshman, possesses solid ground strokes.
