Editor’s Note: This article has been updated since the print version in the April 20 edition of The Press.

During the April 18 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Macungie Ambulance Corps Operations Manager Chris Greb provided an annual report.

During 2021, Macungie Ambulance Corps responded to 4,456 calls for service. With calls increasing annually and with COVID-19 patients, this was the highest number of incidents ever.

With a mixture of paid and unpaid workers, gratitude was expressed to the workers, especially during the pandemic when calls for help were handled even with great personal risk.

A memorial was established for Merissa L. Frye, a young small cell cervical cancer victim. The purpose of the fund is to provide free and low cost first aid, CPR and other training to local emergency responders. It is also seeking to purchase lifesaving equipment for local police departments. There was a golf tournament in June of 2021 where $5,000 was raised for the training fund.

The Corps has 13 full-time operational employees, two administrative employees, 11 operational volunteers, 29 operational part-time employees, administrative part-timers and three administrative volunteers. These numbers are from 2021.

A part-time police officer has been hired for 30 hours a week.

The Department of Public Works requested to hire a part-time seasonal worker which was approved.

Two lights were approved at the end of Spruce Street for the new development.

The Mountain Creek Streambank restoration continues to be a problem as residents own the property since their homes were built right at the banks of the creek. It is their responsibility to maintain and repair the breaking walls. The property owners had previously turned away from a government intervention by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Macungie Institute Facebook page is experiencing some problems. It was suggested to locate someone with experience using Facebook to understand how to make this page function properly. Currently the coordinator is handling the page.

There was an executive session regarding personnel matters and real estate.
