After a two-year cancellation because of the pandemic, Groundhog Lodge #13 at the Indian Creek held its 58th annual meeting and banquet, or Fersommling Un Fescht, March 28 at the East Greenville Fire Company.
Approximately 100 Brie der Gundsei (Brothers Groundhog) attended and received an inscribed pocket knife as a banquet favor.
Haaptmann Barry Miller presided.
The Happy Dutchmen provided Pennsylvania German music and Parre, or Pastor, Richard Miller was the featured speaker.
Barry Miller reminded attendees that, since the last gathering Paul Kunkel, a former Haaptmann, died and board member Earl Dreas is no longer able to serve in the group or attend meetings due to his health. Miller shared a certificate of appreciation to be presented to Dreas for his 33 years of service.
The mission of Groundhog Lodge #13, formed in 1963, is to plan and conduct activities and programs related to the continuation and preservation of the Pennsylvania German dialect and culture. Members participate in heritage activities in schools and the Kutztown Folk Festival.
