Armstrong addresses North Whitehall Twp. board
At the start of the North Whitehall Township Board of Supervisors meeting April 4, Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong addressed the board.
Armstrong mentioned a new community liaison officer was hired and may attend future board meetings.
Yorman De La Rosa’s office will collaborate between county government and various community groups and municipal governments, he said.
He mentioned Lehigh County has 50 miles of trails and the Freedom Trail allows one to leave Washington D.C. on a bicycle and go to New York City, except for three and half miles, and they are working hard on getting a grant.
“That’s one of the greatest things, we must make sure we maintain open space and our quality of life,” he said.
A resident asked a question about the recent news about voter fraud and drop boxes and if anything can be done about it.
Armstrong said there are no signs of fraud, and there is video surveillance.
“God bless whoever took the time to count how many people walked into the place to drop them off and then count ballots later …” he said.
He was pleased to see so many residents attending the board of supervisors meeting.
The supervisors approved the preliminary/final approval for Greenleaf at Maple Street with the condition there should be streetlights approximately every 300 feet.
They also approved a waiver and deferral request.
There was a long discussion about 5077 Overlook Road (Strawberry Acres) and a request for an extension of time.
The township requested the applicant come to a meeting.
The lawyer from Norris McLaughlin was there in person and requested an extension of time up to the end of July.
One of the delays is that the principal engineer on the project died.
Resolution 04-04-22, Commemorating the 250th Birthday of the USA was also on the agenda.
Brenda Norder explained, “the Commonwealth has endorsed America 250 PA Commission and its mission to celebrate the 250th birthday of United States and Pennsylvania’s typical role in the nation’s past, present and future.”
During the comments from the floor (non-agenda items) portion of the meeting, a property owner spoke about squatters living in the other half of a twin.
The owner of the property with the squatters was also in attendance and had spoken at the previous meeting.
They (both owners of each half of the twin) were asking for further help.
The owner offered his consent to allowing the solicitor to request the Constable get a search warrant to go inside and determine what the living conditions are like inside and whether there are any building code or safety violations.
