Four students’ final projects for their Touchstone-Moravian Master of Fine Arts degree in Performance Creation have been completed, with two of the projects open to the public.
Sara Group’s “Wish You Were Here: Zion” premiered online earlier in April.
Matt Prideaux will present a one-night only performance of “Who Wants to Be Matt?,” 6:30 p.m. April 23, Touchstone Theatre in Bethlehem.
Encouraging students to create new plays is at the heart of the partnership between Moravian University and Touchstone Theatre, first offered in 2018.
“This is a hands-on program where students’ creative vision will be fostered and brought to life,” says Moravian University Director of Theater Christopher Shorr.
“Touchstone Theatre is the perfect partner for us in this. Students are side by side with professional artists at Touchstone, doing the real work of creating performances from the ground up,” Shorr says.
The MFA in Performance Creation is an accelerated, full-time, two-year program.
“We couldn’t be happier about being able to attach an MFA degree to our nearly two-decade-old apprenticeship program,” says Touchstone Theatre Artistic Director Jp Jordan.
“Wish You Were Here: Zion,” which has 21 segments, was inspired by a postcard.
Group visited the 230-square-mile national park in Utah in January and recorded her experiences exploring the park. Group recommends listening with headphones to get the best experience.
Prideaux’s “Who Wants to Be Matt?“ is said to “explore identity, sexuality, mental health, suicide and getting covered in slime.” He warns that those in the first two rows of the theater might get wet. The performance is recommended for ages 16 or older because of “explicit and disturbing material.”
Abbie Jean Litman’s “Adventures of Knick-Knack and Paddy-Whack” was performed at a school.
Jessica Boothe’s “Rehearsal For Life” is an arts education program with a focus on the autism community.
