Land added to agricultural security district

Allen Township Board of Supervisors met March 8 to discuss the Gaugler/Mann agricultural security addition. The 57.5-acre property is located off Mud Lane and Seemsville Road.

Both the township planning commission and Lehigh Valley Planning Commission recommended its inclusion in the township’s agricultural security district, allowing the property owner to get certain protections and the ability to sell easements to the county or state.

The board approved the addition of the property to the agricultural security district.

Township Engineer Stan Wojciechowski discussed Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s thoughts on the Willowbrook Road/Radar Drive re-striping.

PennDOT recommended adding a right-turn lane in advance of the traffic signal on Willowbrook Road. PennDOT suggested adding a 36-inch-by-36-inch sign stating “right lane must turn right,” adding hatching in the shoulder and removing the white stripes in the “merge” area.

The board discussed preparing proposals for architectural services for the new municipal facility at the current fire department building.

Supervisor Gary Behler thought the township should keep the top floor open because many residents and organizations rent it out. There have also been times when the room was completely full for a supervisors meeting.

Chairman Dale Hassler suggested keeping two-thirds of the room open and using the other third to create a few offices and a conference room.

Another idea was to update the current township building at 4714 Indian Trail Road rather than risking firetrucks interrupting the supervisors meetings. Behler said the fire department is more centralized than the township building.
