Commissioners approve ordinances, resolutions
At the April 11 Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the focus was on voting on ordinances, resolutions and a series of motions. Actions included four ordinances, five resolutions and seven appointment motions.
Ordinance 8-2022 received a second hearing. It amends Article 36 regarding personnel rules and regulations for residency requirements to provide updated geographic limitations for all persons employed by the township of Whitehall.
Ordinance 9-2022 authorizes the acceptance of a proposal for the purchase of a 2022 Ford F600 4x4 cab and chassis, single-axle dump truck for the public works bureau. The home rule charter requires a purchase in excess of $25,000 must be completed via an ordinance.
The third ordinance for consideration, Ordinance 11-2022, was to authorize a proposal for construction paid by the 2022 Lehigh County Community Development Block Grant program. The construction would be for concrete curb cuts and sidewalk improvements in the township.
Ordinance 12-2022 is an ordinance for the acceptance of a proposal for the purchase of a 2022 Ford F250 4x4 pickup truck for the recreation bureau.
All four ordinances passed. A copy of each is available for review by contacting the township office.
The following resolutions were acted upon. The first, Resolution 3197, conditionally approves the land development plan of a building addition to the Teamsters union building at 3614 Lehigh St.
Resolution 3198 authorizes the mayor to submit a grant application to Lehigh County for securing CDBG funds for the removal of architectural barriers to satisfy an application to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Resolution 3199 authorizes and directs the mayor to enter into a sidewalk maintenance agreement with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 1004 Race St. and to execute the application on behalf of Whitehall Township.
The commissioners reviewed Resolution 3200, authorizing the township to apply for grant funding to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for a feasibility study for the Jefferson Street recreational area and to authorize the mayor to endorse all documents required by this grant application.
Resolution 3201 is a resolution authorizing the township to apply for grant funding to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for a park and recreation comprehensive plan update and to authorize the mayor to endorse all documents to this grant.
All five resolutions were passed by the board of commissioners.
Commissioners approved the appointments of Scott Cope, Carl Kocher and Phyllis Ward to serve on the Whitehall Township Environmental Advisory Council, with terms ending Dec. 31, 2025. Kocher and Ward will serve as alternates.
Michael Dee was appointed to serve on the Whitehall Township Industrial Commercial Development Authority, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2027. Dee was also appointed to serve on the Whitehall Traffic Advisory Committee.
The commissioners appointed Jason Szewczak to the Whitehall Township Planning Commission, with a term to end Dec. 31, 2025.
Donald Keeney was approved to a seat on the Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission as the alternate representing Whitehall Township on the multimunicipal effort with Coplay and North Whitehall.
The next meeting of the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners is 7 p.m. May 2 at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road. It is a workshop meeting and is held in person only.
