Assumption church taking orders for pierogies fundraiser

The Sisterhood of Faith, Hope and Love at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Northampton is selling fresh pierogies by the dozen, with proceeds from April sales going to aid Ukraine.

Pierogies can be referred to as vareniki or dumplings. They are a soft dough filled with mashed potatoes. The preferred way to serve them is to brown them in butter with onions and then top with sour cream.

If interested in placing an order for these delicious pierogies, call 610-261-4575 before noon the Sundays before pickups. Leave your name, phone number and the quantity you want.

Pickups will continue 10 a.m.-noon April 28 and May 12, 19 and 26 at the church, 1301 Newport Ave. The pierogies will be cooked and ready to eat at pickup.

The Sisterhood group said members prepare about 400 pierogies a day, and because of the aid to Ukraine, they have been selling more than last year.
