Past meets present for NHS track

On March 22, the Northampton track team held an event where the past met the present.

Former record holders in some track and field events were on hand along with the current record holders.

Among the records highlighted were Jason Kremus’ 200 meter record of 22.3 from 1989 at the EPC meet at Moravian. Benjamin Henry has since broke the record with a time of 21.96 at states in 2021.

Roger Kornfiend held the 400 meter record with a time of 49.71 set at the state meet in Shippensburg in 1981. Henry now holds that record, edging Kornfiend’s time with a 49.68, set at districts at Blue Mountain.

The past 400 relay team of John Pereira, Tyler Jackson, Morgan Heffelfinger and Colton Maxwell had a time of 44.3 at the district meet at Whitehall. The current record belongs to Omar Elamin, Justin Shambo, Logan Henry and Benjamin Henry with a time of 43.61 at Blue Mountain in 2021.

The boys 1600 relay team had a record time of 3:32.2 in 1988 at Northern Lehigh in the district meet and was made up of Mark Geyer, Heath Lorah, Darrin Walker and Jason Kremus. The current record now belongs to Elamin, Shambo, Matt Heiser and Henry with a time of 3:31.2, set at the EPC meet in East Stroudsburg.
