Heidemann, Feliciano win 2
Freedom seniors Alex Heidemann and Juan Feliciano were double event winners in the Patriot boys’ track and field season opener against Emmaus last Wednesday at Freedom.
Heidemann took first place in the 800 meter run in 2:04.00 and in the 1600 meter run in 4:32.80.
“I personally like the mile better. The 8’s a little too short,” he said. “I had a decent indoor season, and I beat my indoor PR today, so it’s a good start. That’s really good for a first meet so I’m happy with that.”
Feliciano took first place in the shot put with a distance of 39-01.00 and in the discus with a distance of 102-04.00.
“Once the warm weather comes, I think I’ll be throwing a little farther, but I’ve been practicing my form and not worrying so much about distance, focusing on the little things, so when it gets to meets, I can do my best,” Feliciano said.
Some of those little things are arm height, disc placement, and rotation.
“It feels great winning this event today,” said Feliciano. “I think I can be a top contender at leagues. Once I get my form and technique down, I’ll be in a good place when it comes to that time. It’s my last sport in my high school season, so I want to go out with a bang.”
Although Emmaus won the boys’ meet, 116.17-33.83, 11 Patriots scored points in addition to Heidemann and Feliciano.
Jalen Fletcher and Ben-Isaac Joseph tied for second place in the 100 meter dash in :11.40, and Chase Bonstein placed second in the 200 meter dash in :24.00 and in the 400 meter dash in :54.00.
Joseph Bauer had a second place finish in the 3200 meter run in 10:54.90.
Marc Humphrey took first place in the 110 meter hurdles in :18.10, and Alexie Sangster placed second in the same event in :19.40.
Omar El Hussini placed third in the 300 meter hurdles in :48.00.
In jumping events, Amare DuBoise was second in the high jump with a height of 5-05.00, Brooks Britt placed third in the long jump with a distance of 19-11.00, and Ethan Neidig was third in the triple jump with a distance of 38-10.00.
Rayshawn Nicholas scored second-place points in shot put with a distance of 37-01.00 and third-place points in discus with a distance of 98-01.
Freedom’s next meet is scheduled for Thursday when the Patriots will host Parkland.
