College Information Night provides helpful information
Salisbury High School held a College Information Night for students and parents March 22. The event, aimed at helping families navigate the college admission process, was coordinated by SHS guidance counselors Mike Anderson and Allison Moyer.
A panel of college representatives were on hand to answer questions and offer guidance specific to their college/university. In attendance were Timothy Hahn, Kutztown University, Nancy Kelley, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Alyson Remsing, Moravian College and Joseph Schwartz, The Pennsylvania State University – Lehigh Valley.
Anderson and Moyer discussed many topics such as SAT vs. ACT tests, college/university searches and visits, financial aid, transcripts and NCAA eligibility.
SHS student Drew Hines, who is slated to attend Lycoming College to study astrophysics in the fall, offered a unique perspective to finding the right college. He offered tips like keeping a running resume so you don’t forget activities you have participated in, visiting your school of choice multiple times to make sure it’s a good fit and taking specialized tours so you will see the facilities you will be spending a good deal of time in as you pursue your chosen field of study.
If you missed the presentation, you can view the PowerPoint online by going to the SHS website under services and select guidance. There is a wealth of information available on the guidance department website and it should be noted a SHS Financial Aid Night will be held Oct. 3 with a representative from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency available to further assist families.
