Whitehall’s boys volleyball team scored another tremendous win, this time against Emmaus, 3-1, (25-18, 25-16, 16-25, 25-22) on Monday night at Emmaus.
“We beat them last year and then lost to them in playoffs, so we’ve had our eyes on that for awhile,” said senior Anthony Gallo. “We have a really good defense and our passing has been on point all year, and our hitters have been good all year.”
This past weekend, the Zephyrs competed at the Bobcat Invitational at Northeastern High School where they played five matches.
“Definitely better than a Saturday practice for us,” said Whitehall coach George Cowitch in anticipation of the Emmaus match.
The Zephyrs also won a Friday night match at home against Pocono Mountain West, 3-0 (25-5, 25-6, 25-6).
Jack Kocher led the Zephs in kills against the Panthers with 11. Gallo had eight digs, seven in the third set. Tommy Buskirk and Matthew Yadush scored several service points with Yadush relying on his float serve.
“The trick is you want to hit the ball right in the center so that it goes flat and then drops down when it gets across the net. It’s one of the best serves in the game, and it’s tough for a lot of teams to serve-receive it,” Yadush said.
While the Panthers struggled all night, it didn’t diminish the effort put forth by the Zephyrs to play their best games.
“We try to bring the energy, even for smaller games. Our bench is always celebrating and everyone gets excited when somebody gets a big kill or block,” Yadush said. “It’s the culture we built. Families are super supportive, and in some of the bigger games like Parkland and Emmaus, when they’re home, our student section really fills up.”
Whitehall’s next match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Catholic.
