A few weeks ago, Bath officials assembled a flier announcing a humanitarian aid collection was planned for March 21-27.
The event, sponsored by borough council and the mayor, was planned to assist Ukrainian victims of the Russian invasion of their country. Participants were asked to drop off donations at Bath Firefighters Park, 300 N. Chestnut St.
Volunteers were on hand to accept the donations and load them onto a FedEx truck.
Councilmember Phyllis Andrews was present with her husband, Joe, to accept donations from the community, noting she was “pleased with the turnout,” despite some colder weather.
The nonperishable items are reportedly sorely needed in Ukraine. This donation drive was in cooperation with St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Allentown.
Bath Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito said the donated items will be shipped to Newark, where they will be loaded into a container and sent directly to Ukraine.
Reginelli-Mirabito thanked Tetyana Smirnov of St. Mary’s for arranging to get the items to port for delivery to Ukraine.
The public can also visit amazon.com and purchase items to be sent directly to organizations coordinating Ukrainian relief efforts.
