Last season the Parkland High School boys lacrosse team fell short of its perennial goal of winning championships. The Trojans were defeated by eventual Eastern Pennsylvania Conference champions Central Catholic in the EPC semifinal round, and then were taken down in the District 11 Class 3A final by Emmaus. They finished the year with a 12-4 overall record.
Heading into the 2022 season, head coach Mike Bender and his team will look to get back to the top of the league and district. Parkland graduated a talented group of seniors from last year’s squad, but still has talent coming back and coming into the program that will make the Trojans competitive in the EPC and District 11.
“We have some good experience and depth at each position on the field,” said Bender. “Our senior class is more motivated than ever to get the program back to a district championship title.”
Some of the key returning pieces that will be back this season include Matt Barraco at the faceoff (committed to Harvard), Jack Wieder on defense and Jake Hurd on offense (both committed to DeSales).
Bender said to keep an eye out for some of the newer faces that should be contributors this season, including Alex Forgosh, Mason Zaun, Zayd Afif, Will Kerrick and Wesley Englebert.
“We look forward to also seeing several underclassman compete for playing time this spring,” Bender said. “There is a lot of talent on this year’s team, both older and younger players. I’m hoping the mixture of talent and experience will blend and help give us one solid unit as a whole.”
