“The Pirates of Penzance” brings swashbuckling farce to the spotlight, 7 p.m. April 22, 23, and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 24, auditorium, Salem Christian School, 8031 Salem Bible Church Road, Macungie.
Director Gretchen Geyer is assisted by Vocal and Music Director Jane Rivera, Choreographer and Student Director Cadence Geyer, Student Choreographer Julia Howard and Technical Director Brian Strausser.
With music by Arthur Sullivan and book by William S. Gilbert, the comic operetta premiered on Broadway’s Fifth Avenue Theatre in 1879.
The 1981 Broadway Revival was nominated for seven Tony Award nominations, receiving three Tonys. A film version was released in 1983.
Songs include “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General,” “Oh False One, You Have Deceived Me,” “Poor Wandering One” and “Stay, Frederic, Stay.”
