PHS boys T&F will have young team in 2022

The Parkland boys track and field season comes into 2022 with a talented, but still-developing roster coming off last year’s 5-0 regular season.

“Our boys team is young,” Parkland head coach Stephen Ott said. “We lost a lot of senior talent. The focus is not on that though. It is on getting better each meet and using the regular season to prepare for the postseason.”

To accomplish this, Ott and his staff will accentuate each student-athletes’ best traits.

“We have a positive mindset,” Ott said of his coaching style. “It is important for each student-athlete to have personal and team goals that are specific. I try to be the positive influence in their lives. All of our coaches work toward that goal.”

The Trojans will work toward that goal with some returning talent.

Coming off a 2021 East Penn Conference Lehigh Division regular season championship, two young men - sophomore Trey Tremba and junior Dylan Simon - return in sprints. Both are returning starters from the District 11 second place 4x100 relay team. Tyler Hoysan, a senior, and Andrew Beers, a sophomore, are back for another season at hurdles.

Distance runners Brady Hoffman, who finished fourth in District 11 800-meter run last year, is the only returner from the District 11 first-place 4x400 relay team. Paul Abeln is back and hopes to build off his freshman season.

Andrew Nguyen and Julius Reyes are back in throws, while Connor Johns and Hunter Wehr return in jumps. David Sepko and Jack Harrison, two juniors, could be new contributors this season.

“Success will come as long as the athletes believe in themselves and train hard,” Ott said
