Lisa steps down as wrestling coach

The Northampton wrestling program will be looking for a new leader following the resignation of head coach Seth Lisa last week.

The class of 2001 Northampton alumnus took over from Terry Daubert in 2011.

The K-Kids were 124-60 in dual meets during Lisa’s 11-year tenure. Their best season was in 2018-2019 when they finished second to Bethlehem Catholic for the PIAA AAA dual meet title. Northampton won the team title at individual districts that year as well.

Lisa was named the District XI AAA coach of the year twice. First in 2019 and then this past season as the K-Kids finished third behind the stacked lineups at Nazareth and Bethlehem Catholic.

A post on the Northampton Wrestling Club Facebook page gives some insight into the decision, “This decision for him to resign as head coach was not an easy one, we discussed it almost daily for the past year. While we are excited for his stress level to be reduced and for us to get much more time with him, this decision was very difficult. He LOVES his team and staff! And if you ever saw him coach, he sure has a passion for it!”

In other K-Kid wrestling news:

• Jim Derr was named the Pennsylvania junior high coach of the year by the state wrestling coaches association. The team won the junior high District XI AAA team title.

• Northampton has an active streak of 39 straight years with a state medalist. The streak is the longest in PIAA history with second place going to Reynolds with 24 years from 1998 to 2021. The next longest active streaks are Nazareth and Council Rock South at 19 years.

• Next year, Dagen Condomitti can become only the second Northampton wrestler to win four regional championships. Jeff Ecklof currently is the one who holds that distinction.

• Carson Wagner can become just the fourth 4-time state place winner in K-Kid history. Christian Luciano, Jeff Ecklof, and Dan Moran are the present members of that club.
