LHS softball looks for hits

Liberty softball coach Sam Carrodo is looking for Hurricane hits as the Lady ‘Canes approach the start of a new season.

“I’m really happy with our defense and our pitching, but we need to hit to win,” he said.

The Hurricanes traveled to Spring-Ford last week and fell 5-0, but all was not lost on Carrodo.

“We played fantastic. It’s weird to be happy after a loss, but we faced an All-State pitcher,” Carrodo said. “It’s also tough to rebuild after losing transfers.”

One of those transfers was Liberty’s starting pitcher Hailey Pyle, who transferred to Bethlehem Catholic this year.

Mia Williams is now the Hurricanes’ starter.

“She looked great [at Spring-Ford],” said Carrodo.

Other returners include shortstop Ariana Castillo, catcher Madison Noll, center fielder Molly Devers, and second baseman Madilyn Knepp.

“We hit the ball against Spring-Ford; it just didn’t go to the right places,” Carrodo said. “It’s a really close team this year, and I can’t wait to get to games.”

Liberty’s conference opener is scheduled for Tuesday, past Press deadlines, at Nazareth.
