Emergency personnel from Whitehall Township and surrounding municipalities responded to a two-alarm fire March 23 at Spring Ridge Apartments, in the 1300 block of North 13th Street., Whitehall.

The fire was reported just before 2 p.m. A second alarm was signaled quickly, which brought firefighters from Catasauqua, Greenawalds and Woodlawn to assist the township personnel from West Catasauqua, Hokendauqua and Egypt stations and Whitehall Fire Police. Allentown Fire Department also responded.

Heavy fire could be seen in one apartment, and the fire was spreading to the common attic space of the building, according to a Facebook post by the Whitehall Township Bureau of Fire detailing the incident. A trench cut was used in the roof to release the heat and smoke, and another cut was made on the other side to get to an attic fire.

Residents from an estimated 20 units were displaced at the time of the fire, according to a news release from the American Red Cross, which was on the scene to provide resources for shelter, food, clothing and other needs. It was expected additional units would be determined to have sustained smoke or water damage.

Two firefighters were injured, according to the fire department’s Facebook post.

One was reported to have fallen down a flight of stairs. The firefighter was transported to the hospital and later released.

Another sustained an electrical shock. That firefighter was evaluated at the scene and released.

No residents were injured, according to reports.

The fire remains under investigation.
