BASD personnel appointments

The Bethlehem Area School District administration has announced the establishment of an Office of Equity Initiatives to guide BASD equity work. While every BASD staff member must have a commitment to equity and own their piece of equity work, the wide range of current initiatives cutting across every academic and operational department in the district requires greater dedicated district level leadership.

Dr. Benita Draper was appointed director of equity initiatives (effective immediately).

Draper’s current responsibilities include federal programs and grants. The Early Child and the “Parents as Teachers” program will be rolled into the new Office of Equity Initiatives.

Eric Fontanez was appointed supervisor of equity Initiatives effective July 1. Fontanez currently serves as principal of Marvine ES.

Additional administrative appointments have been announced.

Tracey Hirner was appointed director of student services effective July 1. Hirner currently serves as supervisor of social/emotional learning.

Maureen Leeson was appointed supervisor of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) effective July 1. Leeson currently serves as administrator for secondary education.

BASD COVID reporting, masking

Please remember, if your student has COVID, you need to report the absence on the COVID Reporting Tool.On Feb. 28, the BASD School Board approved a revised Health and Safety Plan, including a move to optional masking for all adults and students in BASD schools and on BASD school buses. Many students and colleagues will continue to wear masks, depending on their personal health and level of comfort in a masks optional environment.

BASD positions available

BASD support positions are available. Custodians are needed from 2 to 10 p.m. at Miller Heights and James Buchanan E.S. Child Care leads and aides and school bus driver positions are open at various ES locations.
