WHITEHALL: ‘Godspell’

Biblical parables unfold with “Godspell: 2012 Revised Version,” 7 p.m. March 31, April 1, 2; 2 p.m. April 3, auditorium, Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road, Whitehall.

Director and producer is Edward Hong, assisted by Choreographer Melissa Zimmer, Vocal Music Director Kendra Kramer and Pit Orchestra Conductor Matthew Tanzos.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John-Michael Tebelak, “Godspell” is based primarily on The Bible’s Gospel of Matthew. The musical began as a Carnegie Mellon University drama project, premiered off-Broadway in 1971, with a film version in 1973.

The 1976 Broadway production received one Tony Award nomination. The script was revised for a 2011 Broadway revival and 2012 Broadway national tour.

Songs include “Day by Day,” “All for the Best,” “Learn Your Lessons Well” and “All Good Gifts.”
