LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Boys team starts well

The Northampton tennis team got off to a good start this spring, beating East Stroudsburg and Pleasant Valley after falling to Bangor.

The team has several key, returning players this year, including Ian Pearn and Logan Carbonell, seniors, along with Pearce Foulk, junior, and Brennan Grover, a sophomore.

New players are Brayden Mahachanh, a junior, sophomores Dane Missmer, Lucas Vadelund and Bennett Smith, along with freshmen Maxwil Kochan, Brett Bastian, Josh Dorsey and Nicholas Reichel.

Joining the team are basketball players Issac Harris, Isaiah Harris and Jakob Gulla, who are all fresh off a run in the state playoffs.

Head coach Daniele Bowman said the Harris brothers played together in a recent match against Liberty and then again against Lehighton.

So far, the coach has been pleased with the results.

“We started the season on March 15 against a non-league team, Bangor,” said Bowman. “We lost 5-2 but the boys fought hard. The next day we hosted our first league game versus Pleasant Valley and came away with a 4-3 win.”

Against PV Pearce Foulk and Logan Carbonell were vying for the win and came out on top, winning a pro-set 8-6 to stake the Kids to a 4-3 team win.

On Friday (3/18), the team traveled to East Stroudsburg North and won 6-1.

“It was an impressive week by newcomers freshman Maxwil Kochan and Brett Bastian,” Bowman said. “They are starting their season strong with a record of 3-0.”

Like most teams, the Kids have dealt with weather issues.

“Rain and snow has played a factor into our practice schedule,” Bowman said. “We’ve only been able to get together a handful of times due to the weather conditions. The guys give it 100-percent every time. We still have a lot to improve on but I’ve got a great group of young guys who are eager to learn the game.”
