SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I live with my parents, Josh and Carla, and my younger brother, Nathan. My older brother, Matthew, is away at college. We have a dog, Jäger and two cats, Oreo and Whiskers.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is German. I enjoy languages and German is one of my favorites.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have received several awards for sports, such as the Coach’s Award for cross-country and the MVP for the rifle team. I also received a Certificate of Merit from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for my ACT and SAT scores. I have achieved the dean’s list at Lehigh Carbon Community College for three semesters.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I am involved in the cross-country team, the rifle team, National Honor Society and class advisory. These activities have all continued through COVID-19, although masks are now required and make the sports a little difficult.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I will be attending a four-year college to major in business and study Russian.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge would be continuing to pursue a quality education through COVID-19.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for being the student who was rarely in the building. Because of COVID-19, I enrolled in the early college program at LCCC. For my junior and senior year I have only attended classes at LCCC. While this is a great opportunity for me and allows me to graduate high school with an associate degree, I regret not being able to see my classmates.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my Spanish teacher Miss Dos Santos. She is always cheerful and friendly. She brightens everyone’s day. I hope to be able to do the same.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice for my peers is to stand firm in what you want to pursue. Without stepping forward and advocating for yourself, you will not be able to push your limits and achieve greatness.
