Ruth Elaine Anna Kern, 97, of Schnecksville, died March 15, 2022.
Born July 23, 1924, in Schoenersville, Hanover Township, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Franklin and Eva May (Hummel) Roth.
She graduated in 1942 from Catasauqua High School.
On Oct. 20, 1945, she married Richard W. Kern while he was serving our country in the U.S. Army.
They moved to a home on Jasper Street, Allentown, until 1954 when they settled on a farm in Slatington.
She helped care for the crops and animals and was busy from sun up to sun down.
Famous for her kind and gentle smile, she was a ray of sunshine to her friends.
They moved to Schnecksville in 1996.Her husband died in 2002.
She spent nine winters with her son, Robert, and wife in The Villages, Fla.
She enjoyed attending the country music clubs, playing shuffleboard and bocce.
She always had a good appetite as the staff at At Home at Parkland where she resided the last four years will confirm.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, and United Church of Christ at The Villages, Fla.
Her survivors include her son, Robert L. Kern and his wife, Kay; and granddaughter, Sarah E. Kern.
Her service will be private, at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
