Vikings exceed in both athletics and academics

Viking basketball fell to West Philadelphia in the first round of the state tournament with a final score of 59-58. Great effort in this game and another outstanding season for the Vikings finishing with a 21-6 record. Allentown Central Catholic High School is VIKING PROUD of every team member, coach and student trainer for a phenomenal run. Wishing our senior players the best of luck in the future – Cael Hines, Liam Joyce, Brendan Reed, Tyler Snyder and Tyson Thomas.
Congratulations to our Science Olympiad team and Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Competition medalists – First Place: Wright Stuff – Nick Santos and Josh Devers; Second Place: Disease Detectives – Cooper Mello and Kate Smith; Second Place: Ornithology – Chris Oliveira and Simon Ernst; Second Place: Anatomy and Physiology – Olivia Ulicny and Sophie Steckel; Third Place: Write It/Do It – Katie Hines and Bryn Lawler. Great job! The team placed second overall. Our team will go on to compete in the regional competition at Kutztown University March 17.
Swim and Dive Districts congrats to our fifth seed Boys 400 Free Relay team of Nick Janis, Aidan Wakstein, James Manley, Nathan Harris on their first place win, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District XI 2A title in 3:25.18. Big seed upset! Sabrina Yurconic received second place, Girls 500; Grace Shucavage, third place, Girls 100 Backstroke. Overall boys placed third in the district, girls placed fourth. Great job, Vikings!
ACCHS grad and Olympian Gabe Castano is back at the PIAA District Xl Swimming Championships as an assistant coach at his alma mater. Castano completed a stellar career at Penn State and competed for Mexico in the 2020 Olympics. Welcome back Coach Castano.
Our Mock Trial team completed another successful season. While the team fell to Parkland in the district playoffs, we congratulate Lyam Shook and Zoey Nechetsky on winning best witness and best attorney, respectively.
Thank you to Will McGlynn, Jay Khoury and Lyam Shook for a great job on the program. Will and Jay were team captains this year and went above and beyond to help get the members ready for each trial. Lyam was new to the team but it was not reflected in his quick grasp of the case and willingness to pick up extra duties.
Members included: Prosecution Team – Hunter Ramsey, Will McGlynn, Zoey Nechetsky, Calli Schmitt, Lyam Shook, Carissa LaSalle; Defense Team – Jayda Benscoter, Jay Khoury, Lyam Shook, Keiley Falcon, Annette Lee and Julene Martinez Fernandez.
