Lower Macungie Township offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Plots are available to rent on a first come, first serve basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the Lower Macungie Township Community Center for more information.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens have resumed meetings at the community center. The next meetings are noon April 5 and 19.

Concordia Lutheran Church, 2623 Brookside Road, will hold Lenten worship services 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings March 16, 23 and 30 and April 6.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold its annual community Easter Egg Hunt 10 a.m. April 9. Arrive early for registration. A light breakfast will be offered.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day clothes recycling event 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding and towels (no stuffed animals). The Emmaus High School Drama Department will present “The Addams Family School Edition” 7 p.m. March 30, 31, April 1, 2, 3 and 2 p.m. April 2 and 3. There will be a Gold Card preview performance 6 p.m. March 29. The Gold Card serves as your ticket. Online ticket sales have begun. Lower Macungie Middle School will present the musical “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical” 7 p.m. April 7, 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. April 9.

Eyer Middle School will present “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR.” 7 p.m. April 7, 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. April 9.

Summer playground program online registration begins April 1.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 23.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at the municipal building parking lot.

Lower Macungie Township will hold a Community Day 4-8 p.m. May 3.

The Lower Lehigh Lions will hold its annual spring flea market/garage sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.

Macungie Ambulance Corps will offer American Heart Association CPR training. Heartsaver CPR AED will be 6-8:30 p.m. May 19; basic life support for health care providers 6-10 p.m. May 12; Family and Friends CPR 6-7 p.m. April 28 at the community center.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and staff is available by phone during those times. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and on the website www.lowermac.com.

Yard waste center hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of mowed grass clippings will be begin the week of March 14. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day. Clippings can be put in 30 gallon Kraft paper recyclable lawn bags only (no containers). Maximum allowable is 5 Kraft bags per household per week. The bags can be purchased at many home stores.

Yard waste collection will begin the week of April 18 on the day after regular trash collection and continue every other week. Items collected curbside include tree and plant trimmings, tree limbs less than 4 feet in length and weeds.

Lower Macungie Library has expanded their hours. The library is now open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed April 15 and 16 for a spring break. The library now offers auto renewals on eligible items. The book drop is open 24/7.

Cruise Into Kindergarten At-Home Kits for ages 4-6 years will be available starting March 16. They include materials for fun ways to read, talk, sing, write and play in preparation for kindergarten.

There will be a bookmark contest open house for grades K-12 10:30 a.m. to noon March 19. Students are invited to create a bookmark for the Summer 2022 Bookmark Contest.

Healthy Bites Nutrition 101 Cooking Class will be offered 7-8:30 p.m. March 30 via Zoom. Weis Markets Registered Dietitian Lyndi Wieand will teach the basics of a healthy diet while cooking a meal. Participants are invited to cook along with her.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 to noon April 6 is “The Lost Girls of Devon” by Barbara O’Neal. The book for May 4 is “A Good Neighboorhood: A Novel” by Therese Ann Fowler. The book club meets virtually.

Money Monsters Kits for Kids are available starting April 11 to teach kids about money during Money Smart Week.

Grab & Go Kits for Kids are available starting April 14. The kits include fun frog activities.

Children’s story times are not meeting in person. Books and Babies Story Time At-Home Kts for ages 0-23 months are available for pickup and include a book, activity guide and materials. Preschool Story Time (ages 2-5 years) At-Home Kits are also available for pickup. Register online for pickup.

“A Voice For All” will be held 7-8:30 p.m. March 21 via Zoom. The discussion will focus on book banning and how the movement is currently focused on books about diversity and racism. Each participant should read a book from The Office for Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association’s Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2020 and be prepared to discuss it.

Family story time will be offered 10:30-11 a.m. March 23 or 24 for children ages 2-6 years and siblings in the children’s program room. Registration is limited.

Sunny Day story times for children ages 2-6 years are back. Miss Lisa will read stories, sing songs and share rhymes 10-10:30 a.m. April 19 or 20 on the library’s front lawn.
