EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently enrolled in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My parents are Krista and Jeffrey and my older brother’s name is Casey. I also have a Mini Holland Lop rabbit named Yoda and a Fox Red Labrador named Oakley.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. I have enjoyed almost every course I have taken so far, but I would have to say my favorite subject is English since I love the composition aspect of it. I also really liked the Advanced Placement science classes I’ve taken the past few years such as AP Chemistry and AP Environmental Science.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. During my time at Emmaus I received the Underclassmen Excellence Award for English Writing, the Girls Varsity Tennis Players’ Player Award, first place in tennis doubles at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, first place in the Future Business Leaders of America regional competition in 2021 as well as an honorable mention at National History Day in 2019.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I am the vice president of Model United Nations, EHS Chorale and Future Business Leaders of America and was the captain of the Emmaus girls varsity tennis team this past fall season. I am also secretary of the EHS girls a cappella group, AcaBella and I’m involved in groups such as The Stinger, Outdoor Adventure Club and Habitat for Humanity. This year I am also a member of the EHS Drama Department and will be starring in the upcoming spring production of “The Addams Family.” COVID-19 greatly impacted the activities I was involved in last year, especially tennis. During the 2020 season we were fortunate enough to be able to continue playing, yet our matches were limited and we were unable to compete against any schools outside our county. Luckily, our team returned back to our normal playing schedule this year and we ended our season with a winning record of 17-1.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. I would have to say my biggest challenge to date has been learning to manage the number of activities I’m involved in, as I love to take on as many new endeavors as possible.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My next goal after high school is to attend college with a major in marketing or communications. I would also love to move to an urban environment to start my career after graduating college, such as New York City or Washington D.C.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. One person I admire is Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue. Her ability to run such a successful publication and maintain her place at the top of the fashion industry as a woman leader is extremely inspiring.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my ambition, versatility and leadership.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. One piece of advice I have for my peers is to always be open to trying new things. I’ve made some of my best friends over the past few years in activities where I went in with no expectations and was simply open to meeting new people.
