The Christian season of Lent is underway.
An Ash Wednesday service was held, 7 p.m. March 2, Christ Lutheran, 1245 W. Hamilton St., Allentown, in-person and streamed on Zoom and YouTube.
Officiating at the Ash Wednesday service was Senior Pastor Woody Maxon and Pastor of Outreach Maritza Torres Dolich, Christ Lutheran.
Presenting the sermon was Pastor Brad Carroll, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown.
Organist was Director of Music Michael Krentz, Christ Lutheran. For the gathering music, Krentz played J.S. Bach’s “Mortal, Bewail Thy Grievous Fall.”
For the gathering song, a combined Christ Lutheran and St. John’s choir sang Franz Schubert’s “Kyrie.”
Assisting Minister was Doug Helfrich, Christ Lutheran.
Attendees took communion and ashes in the shape of a cross were placed on their foreheads.
Lenten holidays include: Palm Sunday, April 10; Good Friday, April 15, and Easter Sunday, April 17, and Orthodox Christian Easter, April 24.
