The horror comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” chews up the Charter Arts stage, 7 p.m. March 17, 18, 19; 2 p.m. March 20, Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, 321 E. Third St., Bethlehem.
With music by Alan Menken, lyrics and book by Howard Ashman, the rock musical is based on the 1960 dark comedy film “The Little Shop of Horrors” by Charles B. Griffith.
“‘Little Shop of Horrors’ is a comedically-cautionary tale about the dangers of the captivating spread of misinformation, our societal expectations of the status quo and our individual desires to find ‘somewhere that’s green,’” says Director Rae Labadie.
Labadie is assisted by Choreographer Jennifer Dite-Weaver, Music Director Erica Dickson, Orchestra Director Aaron Patterson and Director of Production Peter Wrenn-Meleck.
The musical debuted off-Broadway in 1982 with a movie version in 1986. The 2003 Broadway production was nominated for one Tony Award.
Songs include “Skid Row,” “Somewhere That’s Green,” “Be a Dentist” and “Suddenly, Seymour.”
The production is not in the Freddy Awards contest.
