“Lehigh Art Alliance 87th Annual Winter Juried Exhibition” features 67 works by 47 members of the Lehigh Art Alliance (LAA), through March 15, Ronald K. De Long Gallery, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Center Valley.

“This is a wonderful venue that we haven’t tried before,” says LAA President Elena Shackleton who presented awards at the Feb. 5 reception, “We love the venue!”

She expressed appreciation for Penn State LV jurors for the exhibition Ann Lalik and Ron De Long.

The cash prize awards are named for the first six presidents of LAA.

• $500 Garth Howland Award: Susan Smerker’s “Rose” (2021; oil, 20 in. x 24 in.). The portrait is of a short-haired woman in a plaid shirt.

• $300 Walter Mattern Award: Nancy Bossert’s “Koi Swirl” (2021; mixed media painting, 15 in. x 30 in.) features a pair of fish.

• $200 Rollin Wolf Award: James A. DePietro’s “Wheels of Time: Ob-La-Di” (2021; mixed media, 24 in. x 24 in.) illustrates life from baby carriage to wheelchair.

• $150 Harry V. Beidleman Award: Maryann Riker’s “Hope’s Desire” (2021; assemblage, 4 in. x 11.75 in.). Contained in a small antique box are a photo of a tree and an addressed, stamped envelope postmarked 1925.

• $100 Anna Riley Award: Luther Henninger’s “Fogged In” (2021; oil on cardboard, 12 in. x 10 in.) is an abstract landscape.

• $50 Paul Wieand Award: Laura Brady’s “Dusty Rose” (2019; acrylic on canvas, 10 in. x 10 in.) depicts pink rose blossoms.

Honorable mentions went to Mary Millan Klunk’s acrylic “November Tall Trees,” Tomi J. Petrella’s pastel “Calm” and Erin Pryor Gill’s “Fenced In.”

The Lehigh Art Alliance, founded in 1935 by Professor Garth Howland of Lehigh University, is an organization for amateur and professional artists in the Lehigh Valley area.
