CATASAUQUA: ‘Chicago’

The Roaring Twenties heat up the Catasauqua stage with “Chicago: High School Edition,” 7 p.m. March 18, 19; 2 p.m. March 20, Catasauqua High School, 2500 W. Bullshead Road, Northampton.

Director-Costume Designer Brenda McGuire is assisted by Assistant Director-Choreographer Kerry McGuire, Music-Vocals Director Greg Snider and Orchestra Director Rob Arnold.

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, “Chicago” is based on a 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 1975, receiving 11 Tony Award nominations. The 1996 Broadway revival received nine Tony nominations, receiving seven Tonys. The 2002 film adaptation received a Best Picture Oscar.

Songs include “All That Jazz,” “Razzle Dazzle,” “Roxie,” “They Both Reached for the Gun” and “Nowadays.”
