LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently enrolled in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I live with my parents, Anna and Leonidas and I have a twin brother named George.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is English because I’ve always loved reading and writing. I probably have spent the majority of my life in the library and I have always loved perusing and analyzing famous literature. One of my favorite books is “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I used to attend Greek language classes. With the help of these classes, I have managed to pass the B1 level of the Ellinomatheia exam, otherwise known as the Certificate of Attainment in Greek Language. This is one of my best accomplishments, because it means I officially have an intermediate understanding in the modern Greek language.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. At school, I am a member of National Honor Society and the newly-instated Literary Club. But I have also always been very involved with youth activities at my church, Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral. I am a member of my parish’s GOYA and I frequently participate in my church’s Greek food festivals, preparing traditional Greek food and performing traditional dances. And unfortunately, COVID-19 has impacted these activities, as for the past two years many events have been canceled or postponed, but we have slowly been attempting to usher everything back to normal.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. Unsurprisingly, I’m planning to enter college as an English major. I’m not entirely sure what career path I’ll enter in yet, so I like the English major for its versatility. However, I am interested in communications as well as library science.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date has probably been returning my life back to normal post-COVID-19 and organizing my life to stay on top of school and my extracurriculars, as I join clubs and perform activities that weren’t running last year.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as someone humble, considerate, competent and loyal to the end.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. The person I admire most is my grandmother, who was kind, gentle and compassionate. She was a skilled, hardworking lady who held my family together. She is one of the many reasons I am proud of my Greek heritage.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice to my peers is never underestimate the power of kindness and respect. It only takes a simple hello or a compliment to form new friendships or to make someone’s day.
