Preliminary/final subdivision approval for some redevelopment projects

On Feb. 22, Macungie Borough Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting.

The first subject discussed was the proposed development Fields at Brookside. This development will include 66 single family dwellings on 89.7 acres with walking trails.

There will be some road improvements to Willow Lane as this development is nearby. The land to be used was part of the Brookside Country Club’s property. This preliminary/final subdivision plan was approved by council.

The Weis property redevelopment preliminary/final plan was approved. The property is seven acres in the borough and Lower Macungie Township. The building will be in the township while the water issues will be in the borough.

A property in the 100 block of West Main Street has been notified about zoning violations. The property allegedly has debris and abandoned vehicles. There was a partial cleanup but abandoned vehicles still remain. A notice was sent to the owner to clean up the property.

Council member Angela Ashbrook resigned from council due to relocating from the borough.

Allen Crawford was reinstated to the planning commission.

The Macungie Police Department report was presented. There were 128 incidents compared to 120 incidents during the same month in 2020.

The grant for the Mountain Creek streambank restoration project was discussed. There is personal property damage in this area. Some residents have chosen to attempt resolution through the state and have completed some of their own repairs. Suggestions were provided by an engineer from Barry Isett and Associates, the engineering firm for the borough, on improving the stream and reducing damage to the area. One suggestion is to remove the piers at the Hickory Street bridge. These piers have no purpose anymore since the bridge is closed and will help prevent the stream from clogging and assist in the effort to reduce flooding.

There was an executive session regarding personnel matters.
