LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Dorothy J. Ihm

Dorothy J. “Dot” Ihm, 99, of Allentown, died March 7, 2022, in her residence at Luther Crest, South Whitehall.

The wife of the late John “Jack” M. Ihm, the couple celebrated 69 years of marriage before his death in 2012.

Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Robert K. and Mary P. (Bradley) Crozier.

A graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona School for Secretaries, she was a secretary for O.P.A. for a few years before deciding to dedicate her time to her home and family.

She instilled in her children moral and ethical standards, both by example and in words.

Besides her faith, family was her life and blood. She loved holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas when the entire family would gather. Nothing made her happier than to see her family enjoying life. She showed kindness to people in need by visiting the sick and shut-ins, and reading to the blind.

She had a loving and gentle nature, with an ever-positive attitude. She woke up cheerful with a contagious smile.

When she made a friend, they were typically friends for life. She was extraordinary in many ways.

She was a woman of strong character. Because she lived through the Depression, she was budget conscious, yet generous when there was a need.

It was her lifelong dream to travel to the Middle East. She and her husband visited twice.

She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, for most of her life.

She was involved in study groups, various clubs, and she faithfully attended Sunday School. She especially enjoyed the PEP Club.

She held Bible classes in her home for decades.

Her survivors include her daughter Linda, wife of Harvey Joseph; sons John R., husband of Frances Ihm, and Mark R., husband of Patricia Ihm; son-in-law Lawrence Dugan; grandchildren Matthew, husband of Melissa Dugan, Damien, husband of Tracy Dugan, Jennifer Bell, Rebecca del Villar, and Bethany and husband, Joshua Darcy; and six great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter Cathy Dugan in December 2021.

“So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away.”(John. 16:22.)

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. on March 11 in Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall.

There will be a calling period from 10-11 a.m. in the Parlor Room at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Allentown Rescue Mission, 355 Hamilton St., Allentown, PA 18101.
