CDBG GRANT UPDATE: The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) announces that the application process for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) will run until 4 p.m. May 26. This is the 14th anniversary for the Northampton County CDBG program.

Funding for CDBG is provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to allow DCED to assist people with low incomes. Eligible applicants are the 36 boroughs and townships and the City of Easton, which participate in the Northampton County’s Urban County CDBG Entitlement program, and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizaions which provide services to residents in the participating municipalities.

Details and applications can be found on the Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) webpage;

NORCO EXECUTIVE REPORT:The books from last year closed with a fund balance of $61 million. With the reduced revenue from the 8.5 percent cut in 2022 real estate taxes, the county has $54 million on hand - the same balance as the last time the books closed.

Lamont McClure delivered a “Certificate of Appreciation” to Betsy Daly, RN. Nurse Daly recently vaccinated the 1,000th patient at the COVID-19 drive-through testing center at Coordinated Health in Bethlehem Township. The site is a partnership between LVHN and Northampton County and began offering vaccines in June 2020.

In response to the unprovoked war of aggression in Ukraine, Mr. McClure has ordered the county to liquidate any holdings linked to Russia in the county’s Pension Fund and Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) as soon as the Russian markets are unfrozen. Approximately 0.7 percent of holdings in the Pension Fund are linked to Russia.
