Daryl Urmy of Coopersburg will fulfill the term of the late Leon Peters as the president of the nonprofit Lehigh County Agricultural Society for the year 2022.
Urmy has been a member of the society’s executive committee since 2017 holding positions of assistant livestock superintendent, Lil Farm Hands superintendent and environmentalist.
In accordance with the 170-year-old society’s constitution and bylaws, Urmy succeeds Peters, who died in December 2021, as the organization’s president.
In this capacity, Urmy will preside over all of the society’s board and membership meetings and special official functions for the Allentown Fair.
He will continue as an integral member of the society’s executive committee, a seven-member group elected by the society’s 49-member board of directors to manage fair and fairgrounds operations.
Urmy is no stranger to agriculture.
He is a fifth-generation active farmer in Coopersburg, where his family farm dates back to 1877.
As a child, Urmy was a member of 4-H, showing his Brown Swiss cattle.
Many Urmy family vacations were spent showing their prized cattle at The Great Allentown Fair.
He was a volunteer firefighter for 18 years with the Coopersburg Fire Company, where he held the office of trustee and chief engineer.
Urmy resides with his wife, Cheryl, in Coopersburg.
Carl Mohr of Fogelsville was tapped to fill Urmy’ unexpired term as society environmentalist.
Mohr has been a society board of director since 1988 and volunteers annually in the Gates Department at The Great Allentown Fair.
