HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS: Salisbury ‘Rent’
With the spotlight on Lehigh Valley high school musicals on the road to the 20th annual Freddy Awards, the Lehigh Valley Press Focus section continues its annual preview series, which began Feb. 23.
The 2022 Freddy Awards ceremony is 7-10 p.m. May 21, State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, telecast live on WFMZ and wfmz.com.

Salisbury High School presents the rock musical “Rent,” 7 p.m. March 10, 11, 12; 2 p.m. March 13, auditorium, Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., Salisbury Township.
Impoverished young artists struggle to survive in bohemian Alphabet City in Lower Manhattan’s East Village in New York City while under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
“This is a beautiful show about love, chosen family, and how we take care of each other,” says Director Shannon O’Grady, “We hope audiences will embrace the message joyfully, as our students have.”
O’Grady is choreographer and costume designer. Assisting are Music Director Zach Montenegro, Technical Director and Set Designer Chris West and Lighting Designer Scott Ross.
With music, lyrics and book by Jonathan Larson, the musical is loosely based on the 1896 opera “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini.
“Rent” premiered off-Broadway in 1993. Its Broadway debut in 1996 garnered 10 Tony Award nominations, receiving four Tony Awards and the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Notable songs include “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Bohème,” “Out Tonight,” “Another Day” and “I’ll Cover You.”
