Gallery View: ‘Lost and Found’ at PSU LV
“Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Capstone in Fine Arts Exhibition: Lost and Found” showcasing 24 pieces by eight LCCC graduating artists, continues through March 18, Community Gallery, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Center Valley.
“I thought the Community Gallery was the perfect space, since the mission of this gallery is to showcase students and young artists from around the Lehigh Valley,” says PSU-LV Gallery Director Ann Lalik.
“The theme here is ‘lost and found,’” says LCCC art professor Jeremy Siedt.
“There’s these series of events where you feel lost at a certain point because it is new or difficult,” Siedt says, adding, “Then you become found at the end with your newfound knowledge or experience with that.”
This is the second year of the course that Siedt created to assist graduating fine arts students prepare to transition to a career or transfer to a four-year school. In addition to building their portfolios, the students gain experience by organizing, curating and promoting the exhibition.
Each artist submitted three works and wrote a thesis for the exhibition. All eight are expected to graduate with associate degrees in art.
Participating artists are: Olivia Allison, Rachael Bath, Quinn Benner, Amber Coleman, Alyssa Dominguez, Kira Kuehner, Alexus Tewold and Biancarosa Vargas.
Works include acrylics, oils, fabrics, mixed media and digital prints. The students provided their perspectives on what they “lost” and “found” visually and in written artist statements.
