The Catasauqua Rough Riders sent one wrestler to the District 11 2A individual wrestling tournament finals held last Friday and Saturday at Liberty High School in Bethlehem.
Jaryn Hartranft’s impressive run ended when was pinned by Notre Dame Green Pond’s Evan Maag in the 145-pound championship match. It concluded a good tournament for the Catty senior after an impressive 36-4 season.
After a first-round bye, Hartranft defeated Tamaqua’s Michael Steigerwalt in the quarterfinals. He earned a 3-2 decision over Saucon Valley’s Cael Markle in a tight match. His score came on a reversal with 12 seconds left.
Gavin Fehr was another Rough Rider who found some success in the tournament, reaching the championship semifinal round.
The 138-pounder won his quarterfinal match 6-0 over Wilson Area’s Tristan Minnich before his day ended when he was pinned in the semis by Saucon Valley’s Ryan Crookham in 3:47.
Mikhail Hartranft, Jonathan Cordon-Pinto, Cole Brown, Miles Melendez and Chad Beller were all upended in the championship quarterfinal round.
Brown was the only one to make the consolation semifinals, with the other four all losing in the consolation quarters.
Overall Catty finished fifth with 86.5 points.
