Falcon swimmers look to contend at districts

The Salisbury High School boys and girls swim team is closing in on the end of the regular season and looking to qualify as many individuals for the District 11 Tournament.

Head coach Mackenzie Sikora has seen improvements in her Falcons since the start of the season and it shows in almost every meet. A couple of individual swimmers were highlighted for their top times thus far this season.

“We have had every one of our swimmers post personal bests almost every other meet,” said Sikora. “A few of our top times have been Cameron Kubinsky in the 100 freestyle at a time of 59.10; Jackson Kramp in the 500 freestyle at a time of 6:28.81 and in the 100 backstroke dropping four seconds in a week to a 1:13.76. Freshman Amelia Swoyer has brought her 50 freestyle down to a time of 31.29 and each meet consistently dropping.”

Salisbury has had a unique season in that it does not get to swim in the same pool for its home meets. It does not technically have any home meets and has had to swim on the road in every meet this season. The school does not have a pool and they have not been able to use the normal Kidspeace pool that they have used in years past.

But that hasn’t stopped the Falcons from working and competing hard in any pool they’re swimming in. They have all taken an initiative to better their times and accomplish their goals they set at the beginning of the season.

“Absolutely, our times have been improving a whole lot,” Sikora said. “Whether it’s in individual events or relays. It really makes everyone happy to see all their times drop and shows that commitment to practices shows results.”

The District Tournament is under different criteria this year and Sikora explained how there isn’t necessarily qualifying times anymore but consideration times.

“With how districts works now is that there are ‘consideration’ times, not qualifying times,” said Sikora. “We have a lot of our swimmers in a consideration times but are not 100 percent certain the logistics of who will be in it. We are hopeful and will continue to work hard to see how all will play out.”

The District 11 championship meet will be held March 4-5 at Parkland High School.
