EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My younger brother Shane, my mother Tara, my father Scott, my dog Rigby and cats Pete, Apollo and Hermes.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subjects would be biology and symphonic band. I cannot have one without the other. Biology is my passion, it’s what I want to do in the future, but music gives me a creative outlet and it allows me to use a different part of my brain.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a member of National Honor Society, Tri-M which is the music honor society and have been both the junior and senior drum major for the Emmaus Green Hornet Marching Band.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I am in many musical ensembles, such as the school musical, Acca Bella, Show Choir, Select Choir, Symphonic Band and my favorite the marching band. COVID-19 has impacted the marching band the most. The pandemic put a huge damper on our ability to perform. Our show was not as complex because we weren’t able to have a full day of rehearsals over the summer. We had to wear masks in the stand, along with having to be social distanced. We were unable to compete in as many competitions or attend our band trip to Florida. However, this did not stop us from having an amazing past two years, for which I am forever grateful because I was able to find a family with my fellow classmates and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I think my biggest challenge would be when school closed March of 2020. I learn best by interacting and debating with my teachers and other students so school over a Google meet was difficult. I had trouble staying focused and I struggled with motivation to do my best. I missed my friends, teachers and the routine school brings. Music has played a huge role in my life and all of our music ensembles came to a screeching halt and our band trip just weeks away was canceled.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I am looking forward to going to college for marine biology in the hopes to work with and rehabilitate injured marine wildlife and rehabilitate them back into the ocean or into a sanctuary.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. During my years at high school I had the privilege to have and meet many teachers and counselors and I do not think I can name any one exactly because they have all had a major impact on me and I admire them for that. However my mom has had the biggest impact on me. She is a music teacher so ever since I was a baby, music has been a fundamental part of my life. Not only this but she has supported me in everything I do and is always there when I need her. I would not be here without her, so thank you mom for everything.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a person who brought passion to everything she did and was not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. I hope that during the four years I was in the music program I was able to make just a little bit of a difference.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Don’t be afraid to take a chance. Just go for it because your high school years really do go by fast.
