Charity bike ride to take place in early April in Emmaus Community Park

Feb. 22, was the second Emmaus Borough Council regular meeting of the month.

The meeting was delayed a day, as Presidents Day is a federal holiday and all federal and borough employees have the day off.

Emmaus resident Lynn Daniels made a comment during the public appeals portion of the agenda.

She asked why her upcoming disabled parking spot was announced by the council as a general disabled spot for anyone in the public, however, she put in for a private disabled spot. This ordinance was discussed in a previous council meeting.

Borough Manager Shane Pepe replied she was, in fact, going to be receiving the private spot and that council misspoke at the previous meeting. Her spot will be private and is going to be voted on in an upcoming meeting.

In the community minute, Councilwoman Teri Sorg-McManamon mentioned the SnowBlast Arts Festival will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 5 in the borough.

There were no special presentations on the agenda.

An event request was received for the Monkey Knife Fight Against Cancer Charity Bike Ride to take place April 9 at Emmaus Community Park.

Additionally, a request was received for the Cedarbrook Sportsmen Fish Food Donation. Both requests were approved.

There were no agenda items in unfinished business and new business.

Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert did not have a report for the council.

In the borough manager’s report, the council approved the retention of firefighters Michael Himes and Joshua Schmale. Pepe added two more firefighters are needed for a complete roster.

Council President Brent A. Labenberg did not have a report. The meeting then entered an executive session and the regular meeting was paused.

After the pause, a letter of resignation from the current public works director was approved by the council.

Right after that, the meeting adjourned.

The next Emmaus Borough Council Regular Meeting will take place 7 p.m. March 7.

The meeting will be held at St. John’s UCC, 139 N. Fourth Street, Emmaus.
